Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE) are Copolymers that share characteristics with both plastics and rubbers. They are general low modulus and, at room temperature, are capable of being repeatedly stretched to at least twice their original length and returning to their approximate original length. These flexible materials are increasingly popular due to their versatility and reliability, having all but replaced thermoset rubbers. This is because they possess all of the capabilities of their rubber forbears, while being much easier to reproduce and remold thanks to their Thermoplastic properties. TPE’s are regularly used in modifying thermoplastic with more rigid characteristics, typically improving impact strength. Thermoplastic Elastomers are used extensively in injection molding and film, sheet, or profile extrusion.
